Laying the Foundations for Literacy
In a series of lively interactive sessions, educator and storyteller Lesley Rushworth uses the oral retelling of traditional myths and tales as the basis for stimulating speaking and listening work. Drama, props and visual aids are used as resources and stories are carefully selected to take account of the communities represented in individual schools.
The workshops include games and exercises focussing on story sequence and content as well as suggestions for follow- up literacy work. Activities are designed to take account of different learning styles, including those more common to boys, as well as of the number of EAL speakers in each group.
